SHUT IT!! A Discipline Worth Mastering

When we were raised, our parents taught us things like, children were to be seen and not heard. Children were to speak only when spoken to. Children had no business in what was called, “Grown folks business.”

Nowadays, parents let their children listen in, and comment on any conversation they are having. They are not taught the discipline of silence. When children are allowed to say how they feel, what they want, and when they want to say it, to whomever they want to say it to, it’s DANGEROUS. If I can talk to my parents any way, I assume I can talk to the teacher, a person of authority, or the policeman the same way. These children become the adults who end up arrested, jobless, alone, or even killed.

The child that has been taught to say the first thing that comes up, ends up being the teenager with the fat lip, and the black eye, or the adult with the baseball bat upside their head.

We learned in school that the toughest people were not the most vocal people. We learned that the quiet people were capable of giving the worst beat downs.

Do you realize, that If we learned to shut up for five minutes, there would be no lying, rumors, false promises, no flirting, no cheating, no complaining, no false information, no false hope given, no scheming, no opinions, and no bragging? In short, the world would be a better place, if we just learn to shut up.

I use to say , the only thing worse than waiting on God, is wishing you had waited on God. Now I know, the only thing worse than SHUTTING UP, is wishing you had shut up five minutes before you actually did.

To the church, One of the greatest disciplines a man can ever learn is not to speak, teach, sing, pray publicly, speak in tongues, prophecy, or preach, but to SHUT UP.

If I learn how to shut up, I can:

GAIN SPIRITUAL STRENGTH
HEAR GODS VOICE BETTER
EXPRESS WORSHIP TO GOD
EXPRESS FAITH IN GOD
GAIN RESTORATION- PHYSICALY AND SPIRITUALLY
CONTROL MY TONGUE

POINT: THE PERSON who does not know how to SHUT UP, does not know when to SPEAK.

  1. You know, this is so true….Like, when we pray – How can we hear God if we do all the talking….I just love the scripture, “Be still and know that I am God.” How can we do that if we’re always talking….
